Schoolyard Habitats

In 2009, Los Angeles Audubon’s Baldwin Hills Greenhouse Program (now NNI) and Politi Elementary School collaborated to install the first schoolyard habitat project in Los Angeles to receive a US Fish & Wildlife grant. The schoolyard habitat has been essential in engaging students, teachers, and community in hands-on nature activities in a neighborhood largely devoid of parks. Our second schoolyard habitat project is located at Esperanza Elementary School, and a third habitat is in the planning stages at Dayton Heights Elementary.
